Historically, Benedictines have a long tradition in herbal medicines. In middle ages, the monks and nuns planted, processed and produced herbs that helped to treat the people around their monastries. The practice slowed down during religious transitions. However, some monastries in Europe and Africa have caried on the old tradition of growing herbs for use as food and medicines.
